FROM:                Nancy McCool, Registrar’s Office

SUBJECT:             Courses for the 2008-2009 Academic Year

DATE:                 February 26, 2008

Schedules for 2008-2009 academic year are due into the Registrar’s Office Wednesday March 19th by 12noon.

Listed below is some information that you will find helpful in your planning, along with some reminders:

1.      Please observe the approved TIME BLOCKS as noted on the time block sheet. Remember that some time blocks are reserved for upper level and/or multi-sectioned courses only.

2.      College Seminars (Fall semester only): Most CSEMs will be schedule on TTH 11:30-1. Please try to avoid schedule other freshman courses during this time.

3.      Included is a listing of your department’s courses. Note that some titles may now be inactive. This list is also available on-line through the BMC Faculty.

4.      You must consult with your counterpart Department at Haverford College. Please attach a copy of your counterpart Department’s schedule to your course schedule.

5.        Course information is to be entered on-line through the BMC Faculty menu in Peoplesoft. Instructions will follow and are available on our web page.

New Courses:  All new courses not previously approved by the Committee on the Undergraduate Curriculum are to be submitted to the Dean’s Office by MARCH 12th.  Please include these courses in your listing with the notation “New Course” regardless of whether or not they have been approved.

Limited Enrollment Courses: Please be sure to include enrollment limits and details on how enrollment will be limited. Include enrollment limits for all new courses. This information must be available to the students in advance of registration. Classes cannot be limited after pre-registration has begun.

Here are the ways courses are typically limited and the expectation of how the lottery will be run:

  1. Limit listed with no criteria – random lottery
  2. Limit listed with criteria (i.e. class year, major, minor, concentration) – random lottery WITHIN the listed criteria until the class is full
  3. Limit listed with Consent of the instructor/questionnaire/audition – instructor must interview/approve enrollment based on information available only from the student

Remember you are always free to ignore the limit and over enroll a class.

Room Requirements/Requests:  Classroom use and scheduling must go through the Registrar’s Office.  Departments may request specific classrooms/buildings for their courses, but, because of limited facilities we can not guarantee the outcome. We will make every effort to match needs with suitably equipped classrooms.   Willingness to teach in non-peak hours may result in a greater choice of facilities.  In addition, we cannot honor requests for individual classrooms at different time-blocks.  For example, a class that meets MW 1:00-2:30pm will be scheduled for one classroom during this time-frame for the entire semester.  Also, primary class meetings will take precedence over discussion/break out sessions for classroom assignments.

ALL SCHEDULE INFORMATION MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19th.
