From the authors
In preparing the project presented on this site, I am indebted to the members of the Mellon Tri-College Language Grant, including Lisa Frumkes, director, and Dan Beeby, technology specialist, and the directors of the language learning centers at Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges: Mike Jones, Marc Boots-Ebbenfield, and Kathleen Lewis. Their consistent willingness to offer solutions to complications stemming from the use of non-western fonts in a variety of programs designed for the more commonly taught languages was admirable. I am particularly grateful to Dan Beeby, whose "Makers pages" provided the tools to create the current glossed poetry pages (http://lang.swarthmore.edu/makers/). I would like to thank Mike Jones for both his help during class sessions in the Language Learning Center and the longer hours spent heading off trouble at the pass before class. Special thanks also go to Keeta Martin, Head of the Language Learning Center at Bryn Mawr College, for her excellent sense of humor while re-typing page after page of poetry in a variety of fonts and encodings. More recently, her keen artistic sense assisted in developing a new look for the home page. The opportunity to participate in a certificate program in Technology and Language Instruction for graduate students during the summer of 1999, held at the Center for Educational Technology at Middlebury College, provided substantial contributions to the final project as well. For this as well as the broader experienced gained during the program I am grateful to Clara Yu, director, as well as faculty and staff of CET past and present: David Herren, Jay Swan, Brett Olsen, Sharon Fechter and Amy McGill. For the recordings for the internet version of this project I would like to thank Xenia Bonch-Bruevich, а fellow participant in the 1999 certificate program at Middlebury College's CET. The authors of the original
print version of this project, Katya Cooke and Jeanette Owen, would like
to thank the director of the 1996 NEH/CORLAC Summer Institute in Russian
Language and Culture, Zita Dabars, as well as the faculty and participants
for their help and guidance in preparing "Travels in the world of
poetry." In particular, we are deeply grateful for the guidance and
proofreading efforts of Zita Dabars, Steve Frank, Mara Kashper, Joe Liro,
and Galina Sergushenkova. Their careful reading and suggestions proved
invaluable. For the original recordings on audio tapes, heartfelt thanks
go to Valentina Soboleva, Vasiliy Ivanov, Olga Kagan, Mara Kashper and
Natalya Shevchenko.
