Structural and Magnetic Properties of Co/Pd Multilayers
Co/Pd multilayers have been studied intensively because of their perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). This unique magnetic property has been used in memory technology, such asspin-torque transfer random access memory devices (STT-RAMs). We plan to investigate how magnetic properties of [Co/Pd]n multilayers change with the repeat number n and the Pd thickness in one repeat. We use the AJA ATC Orion sputtering deposition system to deposit [Co/Pd]n multilayers on silicon substrates. The structure of the grown multilayers is then investigated by the X-ray Diffraction (XRD) method. Magnetic properties of the [Co/Pd]n multilayers are studied by a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) using the hysteresis loops and First-Order Reversal Curves (FORC). We expect to identify the optimized structure parameters of the [Co/Pd]n multilayers for magnetic bubble dynamics studies.
