As one of the very first social work schools in the nation, Bryn Mawr's MSS (Master of Social Service) degree is equivalent in both licensure and use to the MSW degree. The MSS program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Applicants to the MSS and the MSS/MLSP programs must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and work and volunteer or internship experience in the human services. Applicants to the MLSP program must have a Master's in social work or related field. Applications must be supported by transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate work as well as by three references, two of which should be from professors and one from a supervisor of the applicant's social work related experience. An essay and a personal interview are required. International applicants must submit TOEFL results. Admissions requirements are the same for applicants to the full-time and the part-time programs.
PhD applicants are expected to have Master's-level training in social work or a closely allied field. Experience in social work practice is desirable as well. Applicants to the PhD program are required to submit the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English.
