MSS Advanced Standing

Bryn Mawr offers an Advanced Standing Program for individuals who have completed the B. S. W. degree within the last five years from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school of social work.  The program begins in early June and must be undertaken on a full-time basis allowing for graduation the following May or September.  Current work sites in the human services may be considered as field instruction settings.

Application deadline February 1

I.   Application Requirements
  • A B.S.W. awardeded within five years of enrollment from a CSWE accredited program
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0

To apply to the Advanced Standing Program, you must comply with all of the application requirements, including:

  • Required essays
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, one (1) from each of the following:

    B.S.W. Program Director; a field instructor, and a faculty member

  • All application materials are due by February 1 including first semester grades if you are currently enrolled in a B.S.W. program.
II.   Potentially Transferable Courses

Contingent on completion of appropriate course work with grade of B or higher and review of syllabi by faculty teaching in specific curricular areas

  • Foundation Practice I
  • Research Informed Practice I and II
  • Theoretical Perspectives in Social Work I and II
  • Social Policy Foundations and Analysis
  • Multiculturalism and Diversity: Advanced Perspectives
  • Field Education I
III.   Course of Study

Summer:
Integrative Practice (10 weekly class sessions beginning early June )
Field Education (3 days a week for 10 weeks beginning early June)
Fall:
Clinical Social Work I or Community Practice, Policy, and Advocacy I
Field Education (3 days a week, continuing at the same placement as in the summer)
Two Electives
Any needed foundation class for which transfer credit was not granted
Spring:
Clinical Social Work II or Community Practice, Policy, and Advocacy II
Field Education (3 days a week - continuing at the same placement as in the summer and fall)
Assessment and Psychopathology Across the Lifespan (Clinical Social Work concentration) or Community Strategies and Assessment: Advocacy and Action (Community Practice, Policy, and Advocacy concentration)
Two Electives
Any needed foundation class for which transfer credit was not granted.
