The focus of this workshop is on understanding consent and confidentiality laws for minors seeking medical and behavioral health services; recognizing important exceptions, including mandatory abuse reporting; and ways to apply these skills to case scenarios.

Riya Saha Shah, Esq., is a staff attorney at Juvenile Law Center, where she has represented youth in dependency court, written amicus briefs, and conducted trainings for child and youth-serving professionals. Riva leads Juvenile Law Center’s efforts on juvenile record expungement and has written extensively on collateral consequences and the right to counsel. She employs legislative and litigation strategies to combat the criminalization of consensual teen technology use and works with Pennsylvania legislators to implement juvenile justice systems reform. She lectures at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
