David Karen
Professor Karen has done research and teaching in sociology of education, political sociology, sociology of sports, and social stratification. Currently, he is completing a major project in the sociology of sports with Professor Bob Washington, The Sport and Society Reader, which will be published by Routledge.
He teaches courses in sociology of sport (with Bob Washington), sociology of education, social inequality, social movements, and research methods and statistical analysis. He also teaches the intensive writing junior seminar.
In spring ’09, Professor Karen will offer a new Praxis course that places student-researchers in community-based organizations to help these organizations better and more efficiently fulfill their missions.
Finally, in Upper Merion where he lives, Professor Karen has recently been re-elected for a third term as a School Director of the Upper Merion Area School District.
