Office Hours: Tue 10:00-12:00; Thu 4:00-5:00 Dr. Karen has done research and teaching in sociology of education, political sociology, sociology of sports, and social stratification. His current research spans these fields: determinants of Asian-American educational attainment; historical changes in the effects of college selectivity; variations by class, race, and gender in aspirations for higher education; sports-talk radio as a gendered and raced space; plus various other projects in the sports sociology field. He teaches courses in sociology of sport (with Bob Washington), sociology of education, social inequality, social movements (plus comparative social movements with Carol Hager), and in research methods and statistical analysis.
