Dean's Summer Funding Opportunities

Thanks to the generosity of Bryn Mawr College alumnae and other donors, summer funding is available to support students undertaking a wide array of internship experiences. Below are descriptions of the Summer Internship Funds awarded through the Dean's Office.

Each year, 50-60 students receive funding through the Dean's Office for their summer internship or research experiences. In general these funds award $3600 (minus taxes) for a full-time unpaid internship of 8-10 weeks in duration (minimum of 240 hours). Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors are eligible for these funds. Exceptions are noted below.

To be considered for any of the awards listed below, please complete the on-line Dean's Summer Funding Application. The deadline for the application is Friday, March 8, 2013 except where noted below.

Payment Details:  These awards are generally treated as Internship payments. Please see the Payment Procedures page for more information.

 

ARIADNE SOLTER FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in a development project in the global South or in underdeveloped areas of the United States. Haverford College undergraduates are eligible.

 

ARTS INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports a summer internship, project, or field experience in or related to the visual or performing arts. Preference goes to proposals that involve working with artists in the creation of art and/or involve learning techniques.

 

BARBARA RUBIN INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid summer internship in a non-profit or research setting.

 

BLACK ALUMNAE SUMMER INTERNSHIP FUND

The Bryn Mawr Black Alumnae Internship Fund's mission is to establish a sustainable partnership between Bryn Mawr Black Alumnae and current students by providing support for an unpaid internship. The opportunities might include, but are not limited to, apprenticeships with Bryn Mawr Black Alumnae in the student's particular field of interest. To be eligible, students must be members of student groups BACaSO and/or Sisterhood. Students will be expected to present their Final Report on their summer experience to alumnae.

BRYN MAWR COLLEGE INTERNSHIP FUND

A number of awards are made each year in support of unpaid internships.

For the summer of 2013, internships in Washington D.C. will be supported through funds raised in honor of Mike Niccolls '39.

 

EMILY SEYDEL INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP FUND

Provides $4500 to support an unpaid internship in a country that is foreign to the student.

ERIKA R. BEHREND MEMORIAL INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship at a non-profit organization.

 

FILM STUDIES INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in film and media production, exhibition, and distribution, or a related field.

 

FUJIMURA-FANSELOW FAMILY INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid position in order to conduct research on social justice or human rights. In making the selection, preference will be given to international students or students of color.

 

GREEN GRANTS: SUMMER FUNDS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Supports research, internships or field experience in environmental studies. Preference given to Sophomores and Juniors. Several awards are made, and may be up to $4500.

 

JEAN SOVATKIN PICKER FUND

Supports one to two unpaid summer internships in a project focused on issues such as American defense policy and peace or similar topics that are among the central concerns of the nation at the time of the award.

 

JENTES FAMILY INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid summer internship in the production, exhibition, or distribution of film or in the historical preservation of film and film culture.

 

JOAN CHANG WONG MEMORIAL INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship.

 

JOANNE HESS '54 INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in the field of multi-media.

 

BARBARA G. KAPLAN '56 and DENISE B. KANDEL'52 INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in the fields of community development or social change in a domestic or international venue. Preference will be given for a project which involves the arts or to students to explore non-traditional careers.

 

LAURA VAN STRAATEN FUND

Supports an unpaid summer internship which advances the causes of civil rights, women's rights, or reproductive rights.

LOFTUS-LAWLER FAMILY INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in community development or social change in a domestic or international venue.

 

LOWENGRUND/JACOBY INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports field placement work in the areas of community and human services, education or mental health.

Availability for Summer 2013 TBD.

 

MARTHA BARBER MONTGOMERY PRIZE

Provides $600 for a student majoring in the humanities to undertake a special project. The award may be used either for research or travel needs, or for an internship in a non-profit or research setting. Preference will be given to students studying philosophy and history.

 

NADIA ANNE MIREL MEMORIAL INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports the research or travel of students undertaking imaginative projects in the following areas: children's educational television, children's educational film, video and photography, or children's education.

 

NANCY N. GRAPE SUMMER INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in community development or social change in a domestic or international venue.

 

NANCY VICKERS SUMMER INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in community development or social change in an international or domestic setting.

 

REVEREND MRS. JANET WRIGHT NELSON SUMMER INTERNSHIP FUND

Internship fund awarded annually to an undergraduate with a preference for students interested in public health and a further preference for students focused on women's health.

 

ROSE C. TALMADGE SUMMER INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in community development or social change in a domestic or international venue.

 

SARAH LARK TWIGGAR INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship.

 

SIMONSON INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship concerned with public service or public policy, with preference for projects concerning gender equity or women's health.

 

SPRINGER-ROSENBLUM INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship in community development or social change in a domestic or international venue.

 

KAREN TIDMARSH INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship.

 

TRAYTON AND MARIS DAVIS '79 INTERNSHIP FUND

Supports an unpaid internship.
