Logistics
Daily Schedule
Because of the scope of the course material, the pace of the program is intense. There are six hours of classes Monday through Friday and three on Saturday morning. Evening programs are frequently scheduled. The typical daily schedule is as follows:
7:00 | Breakfast
8:00 - 10:45 | Classes - one or more depending on instructional unit
11:45 | Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 | Classes - one or more depending on instructional unit
6:00 | Dinner
7:30 | Guest speakers, films, or time for class preparation
Accommodations
Participants reside in Haffner Hall on the Bryn Mawr campus. Meals are taken in Wynhdam, the college's alumnae house, adjacent to Haffner Hall. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served six days a week; brunch and dinner on Sundays. There are no facilities for spouses, families or pets.
Recreation
The campus is located via train or car twenty minutes from the center of historic Philadelphia. The Bryn Mawr train station is a five-minute walk from Haffner Hall. It is an easy drive to the Amish country, Valley Forge, Gettysburg, and other historical sights. Philadelphia and surrounding countryside offer a wealth of cultural opportunities during July. Summer Institute participants have access to four open-stack libraries with over 1,000,000 volumes and to the gymnasium, swimming pool, tennis courts, and playing fields.
Registration and Opening Session
Program registration will take place on the Saturday before the first day of classes starting at 1:00 p.m. Participants should arrange to arrive on campus no later than 4:00 p.m. since the opening session is at 5:00 p.m.
Program Closing
The Institute will end with lunch on the last Wednesday of classes. Participants must vacate their rooms by 3:00 p.m. that day.
