The Thorne School offers two morning programs, one for 3 year olds and one for 4 year olds. Although the Thorne Traditional Preschool is designed for typically developing children, children with special needs can be considered for admission if their needs can be met in the regular classroom.
Our facilities include a unit block room, two art rooms, two play rooms and a large outside play yard. In a warm, supportive, relatively self-structured environment, children are given the opportunity to make choices and decisions, organize their own activities and develop confidence in their own abilities.
Since 1991, the Thorne School has offered the Language Enrichment Preschool Program (LEPP), designed for children with identified speech and language difficulties. Directed by Nancy Rassiga, M.S./CCC, the LEPP meets from 12:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., with 3 year olds attending Wednesday and Friday afternoons and 4 year olds attending Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. The LEPP is staffed by a head teacher, an assistant teacher, a speech-language pathologist, and undergraduate assistants. To meet the children’s special language needs, the student-teacher ratio is about 3:1.
