Maxim Weintraub, History of Art major, Summer 2003

Summer funding from the Center for Visual Culture allowed me to view firsthand the complicated video installations by the artist Bruce Nauman, the subject of my dissertation in the History of Art. In my dissertation, much of my argument is based on the viewer's sonic and visual (spatial) experience when confronted with Nauman's video environments. By being able to experience a number of Nauman's most important works that are in the collections of the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, I was able to advance my work and strengthen the foundation of my dissertation's central argument concerning the visceral effects of the installations in question. I am very grateful for the continued and generous support that I have received from the CVC. Below are a few select photographs from my trip.
