Website and Blog Setup

If you are...

A student group or individual student- All student sites should use the Bryn Mawr WordPress installation (highly customizable for your needs, can be updated from anywhere, and good for static pages as well as blogs). Basic instructions are available via the TECH Bar. Web Services can provide technical assistance as necessary. We encourage student groups to convert old sites to WordPress for easy updating and transfer of administration to new group members. Please refer to our list of student group blogs for examples.

A Bryn Mawr College Department or Office- In all but exceptional cases, these sites should use the Bryn Mawr College templates (updated by a designated web steward/stewards using Adobe Contribute), a Bryn Mawr WordPress blog, or a combination of both, depending on your needs. For more on the question of blogs versus pages edited in Contribute, refer to the Tech Documentation on when to use blogs.

Common departmental or office needs:

• Convert pages from an old design into the college templates. Process:
  • We work with you to set up appropriate navigational menus and templates, after which you will copy over the content.

• Create a new site for a new program or event using the college templates. Process:
  • Discuss your department or office's needs and responsibilities for content internally.
  • Consult with Communications as appropriate regarding your content and message needs.
  • Once this foundation is built, we will work with you to generate an appropriate menu structure and blank templates, after which you will enter the content.
• Add a new section to an existing site. Process:
  • Discuss your department or office's needs and responsibilities for content internally.
  • Consult with Communications as appropriate regarding your content and message needs.
  • Once this foundation is built, we will work with you to generate navigational menu items and blank templates (as needed), after which you will enter the content.

Note: We can arrange for you to build pages on our development server if you do not wish for content to be visible until it is completely ready (or if the old site must remain visible until then).

A Faculty Member

Faculty members have several options available to them for placing course or personal (e.g. bios, CVs, information about research) content on the web. Please refer to our guide on choosing the option best for your needs.
