Many departments offer the opportunity for students to conclude their undergraduate studies with a thesis on the topic of their choosing. Students generally refine their topics in consultation with their faculty advisors.
To support the senior thesis, many departments offer courses restricted to majors that provide training in methodologies used by scholars and other professionals in the field. And every student writing a thesis has a faculty thesis adviser who provides guidance, inspiration, encouragement and feedback. And yet even with all this support, the thesis is fundamentally an independent project as well.
This combination of support and independence makes the thesis a wonderful springboard to growth and a great source of pride, an experience students can draw on whatever work they do in the future.
