*Virtual and in-person tutoring will be offered in Spring 2021.  Individual tutors will coordinate with tutees. New requests can be submitted through the website process described below.*

Peer tutoring is provided by undergraduate tutors at no expense to students currently enrolled in the courses listed below.  It is a great additional resource for students who have already met with professors and utilized course resources.  Tutoring is offered between the third and last week of each semester.

If you are interested in becoming a peer tutor, contact the head tutor for the subject you are interested in tutoring.  All potential tutors must receive a recommendation from a faculty member before they may be considered for hire.

Note: Tutoring is not available for unlisted courses. However, a student may request a tutor if they are enrolled in an upper-level course, but need support in fundamental material that is covered in the courses listed above.  
 

Resources for Academic Support

  • Professors are a great resource! Attending class regularly, talking directly with your professor, and taking advantage of class resources is very important.  Peer tutoring is most helpful to those students who have already utilized course resources.
  • If you are having trouble taking notes and preparing for exams, you can consult with a Peer Mentor. There is a Peer Mentor in every dorm. 
  • If you are having difficulty with time management, note-taking and/or study strategies, you can schedule a meeting with the Director of Academic Support.
  • You should also feel free to meet with your Dean and/or Counseling Services, particularly if other factors are impinging on your academic progress.

Expectations

  • Tutors will help you to identify certain challenges you may have and will help you approach the material more effectively. However, they can not help you complete assignments.
  • Coming prepared with questions, ideas, and class materials will help to guide the session, making it more effective.
  • Students are allowed to engage in up to three hours of free tutoring per subject per week.
  • If something comes up and you need to cancel or come late, please contact your tutor in advance.

How to Request a Tutor

If you are taking a Haverford course, please visit Haverford Peer Tutoring to request a tutor. To request a writing tutor, please visit the Writing Center.

  • Fill out a Tutor Request Form online. A new request form must be completed each semester and for each subject. 
  • You will hear from a tutor within a week of the request via email.

  • If there are any issues with matching, the Head Tutor will contact you to let you know. 
  • If you would like to request a different tutor, please contact the Head Tutor.
