Campus Life

The Bryn Mawr College campus will be open this summer to admissions tours, reunion, some College-sponsored day programs, and on-campus work for faculty, staff, and students living both on and off campus. Hours and status of individual facilities may be found on alert.brynmawr.edu.

Canaday and Carpenter LIbraries will be open in summer 2021, including evening and weekend hours at Carpenter and a gradual return to more normal library operations, stacks access, and graduate student carrels at Carpenter. As LITS confirms summer plans, the library hours page will also be updated.

Undergraduate Students

In-Person Summer Research

The College will welcome undergraduate students on campus this summer for in-person research experiences, including those students who may have been studying remotely or who were on leave in AY '20-'21.

Summer Research Opportunities:

In-person research opportunities include:

  • Summer Science Research
  • Hannah Holborn Gray Fellowships
  • Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowships
  • Pensby Fellowships

Please Note: Students participating in summer research will sign and abide by a health agreement that requires masking, no travel, no indoor public dining, limited in-person gatherings, physical distancing, and other safety precautions. These restrictions apply to all students, whether or not they are vaccinated and whether they live on or off campus.

Unvaccinated students who are not continuously in residence at Bryn Mawr College before the start of summer research are required to quarantine in their rooms for 10 days upon arrival. This may be reduced to a seven-day quarantine if the student receives a negative test between days five and seven of the quarantine. Testing will not be provided on campus.

Travel for fieldwork is permitted only when using personal or Bryn Mawr-provided transportation and when fieldwork activities adhere to Bryn Mawr safety protocols, including supervision of the work. Supervised day trips may also be permitted under these circumstances. Students will not be asked to quarantine upon return from permitted fieldwork provided they maintain all safety precautions and have sustained interactions only with others in Bryn Mawr's program.

Summer Internships: Remote, On Location, or After July 1

  • Center for Career and Civic Engagement Sponsored Internships
  • LITS Internships

The College will continue to sponsor remote internships and internships that can be done in person from a student’s summer residence.

After July 1, the College will sponsor domestic travel associated with an in-person internship. Travelers will be required to follow all safety precautions: universal mask wearing, symptom checking, and no indoor public dining.

Students will be responsible for their own medical care during and after travel. The College is not responsible for the medical care of students who are working and living off-campus even if they are participating in College-sponsored opportunities.

Summer Student Employment Opportunities

Students may apply for a range of educational work opportunities on campus in Summer 2021. By permission, some on-campus housing options may be available. All students working on campus, whether residential or commuting, will be required to sign and abide by the Student Health Agreement, including all safety precautions, even if they live off campus.

Summer Student Housing

Students working or studying at Bryn Mawr may request to live on campus in summer 2021. All resident and commuting students must sign and abide by the Student Health Agreement, including all safety precautions. Students who live on campus may not work off campus, however. Students who are living on campus also cannot travel outside the immediate area other than approved travel for work-related activities.
