The Child Study Institute's school-certified, licensed psychologists and/or neuropsychologists provide assessment for a wide range of referral questions:
- learning disabilities and other academic difficulties
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- eligibility for IDEA, ADA/Section 504 accommodations
- emotional/behavioral difficulties
- school readiness
- autism spectrum disorders
Comprehensive Psychological Evaluations
Comprehensive psychological evaluations provide assessment of intellectual functioning, academic achievement, executive functioning, information processing, and social/emotional adjustment. Detailed clinical reports address issues of individual learning strengths and needs, academic performance, language, memory, attention skills, and behavioral/emotional/social functioning. As relevant, reports include diagnoses, provide detailed educational recommendations to address learning and performance issues, and suggest therapeutic interventions.
Neuropsychological evaluations are often recommended when there is a complex medical history, such as birth complications, CNS infections, congenital conditions, or traumatic brain injury. Like comprehensive psychological evaluations, neuropsychological evaluations assess intelligence, academic achievement, executive functioning, information processing, and social/emotional adjustment, but with a stronger emphasis on brain-behavior relations.
Early Childhood Evaluations
Early childhood evaluations are conducted for children aged 18 months to 6 years to address questions of school readiness, developmental delay, autism spectrum disorders, and emotional/behavioral adjustment. The psychologist may collaborate with a speech/language pathologist or an occupational therapist in conducting the evaluation.
School Admissions Testing
School Admissions testing involves administration of an IQ test, which may be supplemented with tests of readiness skills, if required by schools to which clients are applying. On the day of testing, the examiner meets with the caregivers to discuss the results, which are then summarized in a written report.
