Students can explore the creative aspect of dance in three levels of Dance Composition and Choreography courses which are offered for academic credit. Two courses at the introductory level—Dance Composition: Process and Presence, offered every Fall, and Dance Composition: Elements and Craft, offered every Spring—introduce the fundamentals of making dances; each course gives different emphases to various elements and approaches.
Advanced Choreography gives students the opportunity to work one-on-one with a faculty mentor over the course of the semester to fully develop choreographic intent and produce a full scale work.
Students may continue to engage in compositional and choreographic work through the senior capstone course for majors. The Tabitha concert is generally produced by senior dance majors. Concurrent attendance in one class per week in any level technique course is required at all three levels.
