Sam

Application Scenario 3: Sam

Sam is a first-year student from Poughkeepsie. Through the Praxis Program, Sam was placed at a counseling program for intravenous drug users. Her role at the program is to conduct intake interviews. She meets with new clients individually, asks a series of questions from a standard form, and records the answers.

From her interviews, Sam notices that many of the clients from a particular neighborhood report using both intravenous drugs and illegally obtained pills. She makes notes on this correlation. At the end of the semester, Sam prepares a poster about her experience for an open forum in the Campus Center. Her poster is called “Observed Differences in Drug Culture Among Philadelphia Neighborhoods.”
