What stories do we tell ourselves about who we are, about who others are? Where did we learn such stories? Who benefits from them? What power dynamics do they hold? And how can documentary arts help us to expose these narratives, to unlearn them, and even to craft new narratives that foster community power? In this talk, Iranian American documentary artist Aggie Ebrahimi Bazaz, an award-winning, Iranian American documentary filmmaker and educator, will discuss her body of work as a journey of grappling with such questions specifically in regards to immigrant identities, belonging, and citizenship.
