Lux Doctorum is a Latin phrase that translates to “Light of the Learned.” The ceremony is inspired by the undergraduate tradition Lantern Night, when sophomores present lanterns to first-year students in their class color. During Lux Doctorum, lanterns in the graduate student color of yellow are passed from current graduate students to new graduate students, symbolic of the light of knowledge being passed.
All are welcome to attend! Please bring your lanterns to support those who are receiving their lanterns for the first time! Candles will be provided.
