Following the terror attacks in France and elsewhere in Western democracies, there has been growing concern about the so-called "radicalization" of young Muslims. Particular attention is often paid to the outskirts of Western cities, considered to be breeding grounds for homegrown extremism. Fabien Truong's research is a vivid immersion in the suburban area just south of Paris. He investigates a dense network of competing social loyalties and traces the path that young men there take to resolve the conflicts they face: being Muslim.
Fabien Truong is a sociologist, filmmaker, and lecturer at the Centre de Recherches Sociologiques et Politiques de Paris.
