The NIH's short Protecting Human Research Participants online course satisfies this training requirement and is free to researchers. It should take no more than 1.5-2 hours to complete.
- Click here to set up an account and start the course.
- For more information about the course, see the NIH FAQ.
- When you are finished, click "view certificate" then take a screen shot of your certificate. (Help with taking screen shots on a Mac or on a PC.) This screen shot must be included with your IRB proposal; the screen shot and your proposal should be sent directly to the IRB Chair as a pdf file. No paper IRB proposals will be accepted. If you are a departmental reviewer, your screen shot should be sent directly to Nona Smith in the Office of Sponsored Research.
If you have already completed this or another human subjects research training, you can upload your certificate to satisfy the requirement -- click here for info on how to access previously earned NIH certificate.
