Position Description: Bryn Mawr College Special Collections seeks applicants for a part-time, temporary position processing a large bequest of primarily 19th and 20th century children’s and juvenile literature. Under the direction of the Children’s Book Project Cataloguer, the Cataloging Assistant will be responsible for copy-cataloging books in the collection; participating in the training and supervision of student workers on the project; and participating in setting priorities for cataloging.
Required: Bachelor’s degree; close attention to detail; exposure to controlled vocabularies; facility with WorldCat and library catalogs; familiarity with MARC21 and AACR2; willingness to learn and adhere to local interpretations of and additions to international cataloging standards; ability to lift 20 lbs.; ability to reach top shelves of standard sized library stacks either unassisted or with ladder; legal permission to work in the United States.
Preferred: Graduate degree from a Library/Information Science program, or current student in Library/Information Science graduate program; familiarity with DCRM(B), RDA, and RBMS Controlled Vocabularies; basic knowledge of book history as it pertains to the physical object; experience with OCLC Connexion, Millennium and/or Alma.
