Interim Manager of Collier Science Library
The successful candidate will work in Collier Science Library, within the Research & Instructional Services department in Library & Information Technology Services (LITS) at Bryn Mawr College. We are looking for someone who can take charge of this library through the fall semester, with support from colleagues in RIS and other departments in LITS. This is a great opportunity to gain professional experience on the way to a career in academic libraries, and you will have the opportunity to develop areas of interest. Work follows normal hours (generally 9-5 daily), with some flexibility possible; term is from July or August through December 2018. Full-time preferred, but not absolutely essential. Student workers have already been hired for the fall, and our outgoing science librarian will be available for consultation.
Specific duties: Coordinates access services in Collier Science Library, including hiring, training, and supervision of student employees. Oversees the facilities and services in the library. Provides reference assistance for patrons of Collier Library, and depending on background and interest, may provide instructional support to faculty in the sciences. Provides additional services depending on expertise: may participate in Library and Information Technology Services or Tri-College (Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges) committee work, and may participate in collection development initiatives.
We are looking for someone who has strong organizational and analytical skills, highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate well, and who has knowledge of current library and web technologies, and has at least a BA and preferably library experience or has completed or is close to completing a library degree. We would love to find someone who has a background in any of the subject areas (in science and mathematics) covered in the library.
