Donna J. Harris

Donna Harris was recently appointed as interim faculty at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research where she currently teaches Clinical Practice, Multiculturalism: Power, Privilege and Oppression and Mindful Facilitation. She is also chairs the multiculturalism teaching group and has taught at the GSSWSR as an adjunct for 14 years. Having completed her undergraduate degree at Bennington College, she later earned a Master’s degree in Psychology from the New School for Social Research. 
Donna later began practicing in the area of addictions which, eventually led to a decade of working with chronically mentally ill people, with additive disorders. Her M.S.W. degree was awarded by Adelphi University and continued to work in agency settings as a clinician, field instructor and clinical director. She subsequently completed a 5-year certificate program in Relational Psychoanalysis at the Manhattan Institute where she also received specialized training in relational trauma work. Prior to coming GSSWSR, she was an adjunct lecturer at New York University. She has maintained a private practice working with individuals and groups for over 25 years and focuses on cross-cultural social work practice.

Research and Scholarly Interests: Trauma focused social work practice with marginalized populations, Intersectionality and social identity and post-racial trauma.

Substantive Specialization: Clinical Practice with adults abused as children; Intercultural Social Work Practice and clinical supervision.
