Meet A Mawrter:
is a volunteer-driven initiative to foster relationships and supportive connections among Bryn Mawr alumnae/i. These relationships enrich and nourish lives as well as promote the power of community to current and future Mawrters! The ULTIMATE GOAL is to generate 1,000 conversations before September 30, 2018! CONNECTORS will launch the initiative by having one-to-one conversations with 5-7 Mawrters between March and June. The people they connect with will then be asked in turn to reach out and connect with other Mawrters!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I have conversations to keep this going?
Mawrters are smart, resourceful and almost always willing to help by sharing insights and perspectives in unique Mawrter ways. However, we so often and understandably get caught in the daily demands of our lives and careers. Meet A Mawrter: 1,000 Coffees is a call to action, to remind us to spend time with alums once or twice a month to foster the supportive connections that can really enhance and nourish our lives and promote the power of this community to current and future Mawrters.
These conversations are happening anyway. Why should we participate in this?
A conversation with someone outside your immediate circle can be a launch point to new conversations and ideas. Ongoing relationship building and strengthening makes the Mawrter community a powerful force. Tracking the conversations in a collective way amplifies the power of the community. Providing information about the conversations that can be shared with current students, future students, alumnae, and families to highlight Bryn Mawr’s excellence.
How are conversations tracked?
The Alumnae Association and LILAC are monitoring the email address.
Explain the math to me.
The inaugural 40 Connectors aim to complete 200 coffees (40 times 5) by June 1, 2018 (think before Reunion). The 200 people tapped in those conversations will then have five conversations of their own with other Mawrters, reaching the goal of 1,000 (200 times 5) by September 30.
Can I count conversations with my friends?
We encourage you to think beyond your immediate circle or closest friends! However, if that seems like too far of a stretch, technically you can as long as you send in the email.
How do I find 5-7 alums to connect with?
- Search the over 14,000 members in the Bryn Mawr College LinkedIn Alumni Tool with easy to use filters by location, major, where they work, etc.!
- Bryn Mawr College Alumnae LinkedIn Group
- Bryn Mawr College Alumnae/i & Students
- Mawrters at Work Facebook Group
- Mawrters who work in the same organization as you
- Contact the Club President / Board in your region
- Look at regional events and if in town attend one of those club events
Why do I have to send an email?
The email is the only way that the conversation will be counted toward the goal. Those who participate are eligible for drawings for prizes on a monthly basis. Not to mention, sharing your stories helps promote the power of the community!

No, any type of meeting counts. Be creative. Conversations with more than one person are also okay! Try to have your meetings in person, but if that is not possible, other options are Skype or phone!
How were the inaugural 40 connectors selected?
For the pilot year, we selected Connectors who were former members of the President’s Advisory Council and the Career Development Representatives, as well as those who represent affinity groups and age cohorts not represented in former PAC members.
How are we measuring success?
Reaching 1,000 or more conversations by September 30 as documented through MeetaMawter@brynmawr.edu. Discovering stories and connections from the emails and then providing highlights of those stories to showcase the power of the community to alumnae/i, students, and prospective families.
Will we do this every year?
This is a pilot year to test the program. If it is a success, we hope to keep it going!
