Overbrook Art Program

Bryn Mawr College has a long-standing partnership with the Overbrook Elementary School. With guidance from the school, BMC student volunteers provide art instruction once a week to classrooms for an entire semester.

Overbrook Art Program

What: Bryn Mawr students provide art instruction to students at Overbrook Elementary School. The student volunteers commit to working once a week at Overbrook Elementary School and travel in a group to the school in a College van.

WHERE: Overbrook Elementary School, 2032 N 62nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19151

WHEN: Fridays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

HOW: Bryn Mawr students lead classroom art projects with Overbrook Elemenatry students in grades K - 6. The BMC students work as a team with a student coordinator. Volunteers will develop the lesson plan for the art project as a team and, under the direction of the student coordinator, lead the assigned classes through the execution of the art project.

YOU SHOULD KNOW: Volunteers are asked to commit to this program for the semester and ideally for the entire academic year. All volunteers will also need to provide background clearances and an FBI fingerprinting report. LILAC | Civic Engagement will cover the costs of these clearances. There will also be a mandatory training and orientation session for all new and returning volunteers.
