What have you done after graduating from Bryn Mawr?
I am now attending the M.S. in Management program at the University of Notre Dame. All of my classmates graduated from colleges with non-business majors, and we will spend one year here to take some business courses.
How does math connect with your current occupation?
Math plays a crucial role in both my current academic study and my career seeking.
How has your math experience at Bryn Mawr prepared you for your current position and life after Bryn Mawr?
I gained analytical skills from my math experience at Bryn Mawr. More importantly, I improved my soft skills: teamwork, critical thinking, decision making, etc. Also, those four years assured my interest in math, so I would like to develop a career involving some level of math in it :-)
Which aspects of the math major did you enjoy or find particularly useful?
1. The family environment — it is very rare. I felt comfortable to talk with all the professors, even if she did not teach me. The math lounge is my favorite place on campus, where I could study, relax, or have some leftover cookies from the math talk.
2. The thesis. It is really worth it to spend a whole year on the thesis. I got to choose a topic I liked, do research on it, and compile everything into a file. It was a enjoyable process and I found it useful.
Do you have any advice for current math majors?
Leverage all the resources in the BMC Math Department. That means taking the course if you like the topic (no matter how difficult it could be), asking professors for research opportunities if you have an idea in mind, etc.
