November 17, 2016

Jenifer Neils '72 has been named director of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (ASCSA). She is the first woman to hold this position in ASCSA's 136-year history.

Neils is currently a professor at Case Western Reserve. She has been a visiting professor at ASCSA, the University of California at Berkeley, and Johns Hopkins University, as well as a resident of the American Academy in Rome and fellow at the Getty Research Institute.

At the American School, Neils will take over for the current director, Bryn Mawr Professor James Wright, who has been head of the school since July 2012.

Neils cites Professor Mabel Lang of the Greek Department and Professor Brunilde Ridgway of the Classical Archeology Department as her mentors at Bryn Mawr.
