As the Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR), I am delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you to our school and I invite you to explore all that we have to offer and learn more about our degree programs, community partnerships, and the exciting work of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The faculty, student and staff at the GSSWSR work together to create a learning environment that prepares our students to engage the complex social problems and challenges of the 21st century. Through classroom-based learning and a wide range of field education opportunities, students at the GSSWSR learn state of the art approaches to social work practice with an emphasis on the diversity of experience, our commitment to social justice, practice excellence, and the creation of an inclusive community.
This is an exciting time at the GSSWSR. We are joined by several new faculty members whose work emphasizes interdisciplinary partnerships in areas such as Latino youth mental health and development, bullying and cyber-bullying on college campuses, models of affirmative social work practice, human trafficking, program evaluation, and global social work. The faculty of the GSSWSR is engaged in active research and practice in the broad areas of “Health and Mental Health Across the Lifespan” and “Children, Families and Society.” Spanning these areas, we have launched a curricular initiative in “Trauma Informed Social Work” that includes a new required core course, and the development of new advanced electives. We are also excited to be working toward new ways to incorporate technology in teaching through the development of “flipped” classroom models, hybrid and online courses.
Relationships matter at the GSSWSR. Faculty, student and staff work together to create a caring and engaged learning environment. I am honored to be the Dean at this exciting time at the GSSWSR and on behalf of our community, welcome to Bryn Mawr and the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research!
