Trauma-Informed Practice with Children, Youth and Families
The Junior Fellow Program of the Center for Child and Family Wellbeing welcomes MSS students to apply to become Junior Fellows for the 2018-2019 academic year!
The cornerstone of the Jr. Fellow program is the Integrative Seminar. This seminar meets five times during the academic year. Each of the Integrative Seminars is three-hours in length and is held on Saturday mornings (schedule below).
This year, the integrative seminar is focused on the Trauma Informed Work with Children, Adolescents and Families: A Global Perspective. In addition to reviewing core research on ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and the impact of toxic stress on developmental wellbeing, we will address child and adolescent mental health from a global perspective. This will include the experience of immigrant and refugee families in the United States, as well as global and comparative perspective on child and adolescent mental health. We will also examine how stress and unresolved trauma creates challenges for parents in meeting the needs of their children. We emphasize new conceptualizations of resilience in individuals, families and communities.
Seminar Dates: All seminars meet from 9:00 am-11:45 am
September 22, October 27, November 17, January 26, February 23, March 23 (snow date)
The Integrative Seminar represents a unique training opportunity and a way to form a cohort with other students who have similar interests and career goals. All MSS students are welcome! Due to generous grant support, we are able to offer the Fellowship Program for $75/semester ($150/year). Each year, students who complete the fellowship program will receive a certificate of achievement, and will have this milestone noted on their academic transcript. CWEL students are required to participate in this seminar series.
The Jr. Fellow application is available here. Submissions can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to the school. Applicants can expect to be notified of the Committee's decision within a few weeks of the receipt of their application.
