Mission: A partnership of students and the Pensby Center focused on deepening understandings of the continuum of gender and sexuality and how they relate to life on Bryn Mawr College's campus. Spectra goals are to host educational programs and facilitate conversations about gender and sexuality diversity, to serve as a resource to members of the College community, and to identify best practices for inclusivity of policies. The cornerstone events that Spectra hosts focus on current students, including everyone from those who are out and queer-identified to those who aren't quite sure what "queer" means but would like to know more. "Spectra" is the plural of spectrum, describing a model used frequently to represent a range of identities for gender, gender presentation, sexual orientation, and more. Our programs seek to include people from all ranges of these spectra, including those who do not identify within them.
Spectra advances the diversity mission of Bryn Mawr College by creating an environment and community inclusive and supportive of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and queerness. Spectra's advocacy emerges from providing resources, educational opportunities and LGBTQIA+ justice initiatives to all students, faculty, and staff at the College.
