M.S., Astronomy, University of Wisconsin - Madison

Ella Braden has joined LILAC as the STEM program coordinator. Ella is planning and implementing a new series of STEM intensives focused on non-research careers in science. These intensives, to be held over breaks, are designed to appeal to a broad range of students who have a strong interest in science and wish to explore careers that combine their love of science with their other interests, such as public health, environmental protection, the arts, science journalism and the private sector. Prior to Bryn Mawr, Ella has over eight years of experience as a science educator and advocate for scientific knowledge in everyday life. An astro-physicist by training, Ella brings to this position a unique combination of professional experience, including scientific research, program planning, student advising, and an enthusiasm for hands-on science education.
Ella received her M.S. in Astronomy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her B.A. in Physics-Astronomy from Whitman College. Ella was the outreach coordinator for the University of Wisconsin's Wonders of Physics program, planning and presenting interactive physics demonstration shows for schools and community organizations, and served on university-wide science outreach committees and working groups to plan and execute large-scale public science events. Most recently, Ella served as acting deputy manager and education officer for the education division of the Australian government’s Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). In this role, she designed and implemented new programs and modified existing programs to align with the new national science curriculum, as well as presented more than 300 hands-on science and technology programs and shows to students (pre-K through high school) throughout New South Wales.
Ella grew up in Washington State and retains her love of mountains, the outdoors, hiking, kayaking and a great apple. Before calling Pennsylvania home, has lived in many U.S. states, Australia and Scotland.
