The Science Support Services Department (SSSD) is a go-to, problem-solving group that works to accomplish the goals of students and faculty on class and lab work, research, design, and more. SSSD oversees the instrument shop, inventory control, stock room monitoring, and Park Science building package receiving.
Support for Students: SSSD staff assists students with senior theses, research, class projects, and extra independent learning endeavors. The Instrument Specialist is available to train students on departmental instrumentation.
Support for Faculty: SSSD works with faculty to coordinate:
- new equipment purchases;
- location, placement, and setup of equipment;
- delivery (shipping and rigging);
- expense allocations (start-up funds, grants or other sources); and
- preventative maintenance and warranties.
Supporting Design: The Instrument Shop works with faculty and students from the idea stage to implementation in the lab on all equipment built and/or purchased for research and teaching. Staff members also offer teaching demonstrations.
Supporting Inventory: SSSD maintains the College’s chemical inventory system, Quartzy. This system tracks all chemicals in the building from reception to disposal.
Supporting Sustainability: SSSD works closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer to ensure a safe and environmentally-friendly workplace.
