Materials Disposal

How to Dispose of Used Bottles/Containers from a Lab

When a chemical has been used and the bottle is ready to be thrown out, follow the steps listed below:

1. Remove the yellow barcode label from the bottle.

2. Place the sticker on BMC Chemical Disposal Log sheets on the green clipboards that are located throughout the Park Science building (in the research/teaching labs in the Chemistry wing and the hallways in the Biology/Physics wings).

3. Dispose of the bottle/container per proper procedures.

Barcodes and Bottle Labeling Procedures

Bottles in the solvent room have two barcode labels. To ensure proper removal, please follow the steps listed below:

1. If you transfer a bottle to your lab, put one of the labels on the inventory sheet (next to your laboratory name) located on the Solvent Room (Park 186) door.

2. Use the second label for disposal. Place the sticker on the Chemical Disposal Log sheets (as above).

3. Dispose of the bottle/container per proper procedures.

The disposal sheet will be collected monthly and the labels entered into the system for removal.
