Dear GSSWSR students,
First, my thoughts are with you during this uncertain and stressful time as we all work to navigate our individual and collective experiences of COVID-19. I am writing now, in light of the email sent on Friday by President Cassidy. As you may have already read in her letter, we are implementing new steps to ensure health and safety and to be aligned with directives from Governor Wolf. To quote President Cassidy’s letter, “Our highest priority must be to protect the health and well-being of members of the Bryn Mawr community. We also have a responsibility to contribute to the larger effort to slow the spread of the virus”.
I share President Cassidy’s expression of sadness that we must extend remote learning through the remainder of the spring semester, including both classroom work and field education. At the GSSWSR, we are committed to working with you to support your ability to complete your coursework for this year and we recognize, that this is not the way any of us had anticipated our spring semester to unfold. Below are specifics about work with faculty, classes and field education.
All courses will continue remotely. As before, it is important to stay engaged with your classmates, your teachers and your coursework. Please be in touch with the Dean’s office if you have accessibility barriers to participation in remote learning activities.
Meetings with faculty, advisors, field liaisons and/or GSSWSR staff and administrators should be arranged on a remote basis. This can include email, phone, Skype, Teams or other platforms people are using such as ZOOM. Please be in touch with your advisors with questions and concerns and of course, we encourage you to be in touch with the Dean’s office as well.
We hope to continue building community online. In addition to engaging with your classmates remotely through various platforms, we hope to continue our community conversations and open dialogues online. Please stay tuned for more information. If you have other ideas for building virtual community, please reach out.
Registration for summer session: We do not yet know exactly how we will approach summer session, but it is likely that some, if not all, of summer instruction may continue to be online, though we cannot yet know that for sure. In any case, registration for summer session will begin on Tuesday, March 24th, at 7:00 a.m., and close on Thursday, March 26th, at 7:00 p.m.
Field Education: Field Education will continue remotely until the final day of field, April 17th. Field Liaisons will stay in communication with all students and Field Instructors to support this learning. It is important to stay engaged with your Field Instructor, as possible, and your Field Liaison in this regard. Please make use of the Resources for Remote Field Learning website for additional remote learning opportunities as needed, informing your Field Liaison an Field Instructor of the opportunities you have accessed.
