As the Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR), I am delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you to our school and I invite you to explore all that we have to offer!
The faculty, student and staff at the GSSWSR work together to create a learning environment that prepares our students to engage the complex social problems and challenges of the 21st century. Through classroom based learning and a wide range of field education opportunities, students at the GSSWSR learn state of the art approaches to social work practice with an emphasis on the diversity of experience and the importance of creating an inclusive environment.
This is an exciting time at the GSSWSR! We are joined by 2 new faculty members whose work focuses on important areas such as Latino youth mental health and development, bullying and cyber-bullying on college campuses, and models of affirmative social work practice. The faculty of the GSSWSR is engaged in active research and practice in the broad areas of “Health and Mental Health Across the Lifespan” and “Children, Families and Society”. Responsive to an evolving practice environment, new courses at the GSSWSR include “Integrated Health Care and Social Work Practice” and “Caring for An Aging America”. We are also excited to be working toward new ways to incorporate technology in teaching through the development of “flipped” classroom models, hybrid and online courses.
Relationships matter at the GSSWSR. Faculty, student and staff work together to create a caring and engaged learning environment. I am honored to be the Dean at this exciting time at the GSSWSR and on behalf of our community, welcome to Bryn Mawr and the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research!
