Applications for the 2019-2020 program year are now being accepted.
Home and School Visitors (HSV) are licensed and certified professionals who provide a variety of services to students, families, schools, and the community. Working with other school staff and outside agencies, the HSV intervenes to identify and eliminate barriers to students’ academic achievement and their healthy social-emotional development. Home and school visitors provide both direct and indirect services to help students achieve maximum benefit from educational experiences.
Bryn Mawr's Home and School Visitor Certificate program is designed for the student who is interested in pursuing a school social work credential. The HSV program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and is compliant with current PDE standards, including accommodations and adaptations for students with disabilities and for English language learners. The program has been carefully developed to meet all requirements established by PDE for individuals seeking certification.
In order to receive official certification, candidates for Home and School Visitor certification must be recommended to the Pennsylvania Department of Education by the academic institution through which HSV requirements are completed. Bryn Mawr assists HSV candidates to this end by maintaining records of completion of academic requirements, informing candidates of their completion, and recommending candidates for certification.
In addition, PDE requires all post M.S.S./Home and School Visitor candidates to have passed the PA Social Work License exam and hold a valid PA Social Work License (L.S.W. or L.C.S.W.) at the time they apply for certification to PDE.
The Home and School Visitor Certification, as with other professional certificates or licenses, requires continuing education maintenance in order to keep the certification active. (See HSV Certificate Maintenance.)
