An exciting new chapter for the Thorne School is coming soon! We are thrilled to announce that sometime in 2018-19 we will be moving across our parking lot to Little West House, currently occupied by the Child Study Institute (CSI). The costly renovations to West House that would be required to allow its use as a school for the long-term necessitate this move. CSI plans to relocate to an off-campus setting in the summer of 2018, at which time we will begin the renovations required to convert the building for Thorne’s use. This move will allow us easy access to our beautiful playground.
The preliminary plans include three modern, beautifully lit classroom spaces to accommodate our toddler and preschool classes, plus a kitchen, a lobby, bathrooms in each classroom, and a few offices. We will all miss the “classic” West House surroundings, but the Thorne staff is excited at the prospect of a new and updated space. We will be working over the next year to finalize the plans with our architectural team, recruit our construction team, and obtain township approval.
This timetable gives us a year to raise the funds needed for this renovation. In the first phase of the Thorne Building Campaign, which took place in Spring of 2016, generous donors contributed $100,000 of the $350,000 we estimate we will need. While this was a great beginning, it leaves more than two-thirds of the required funds still to raise.
We are asking Thorne’s friends and families to help raise the funds necessary. Contributions to the Thorne School Building Campaign are tax deductible as charitable donations. Parents choose Thorne because of its play-based, child-centered program, its talented teachers, and its strong support for children and families. Our goal is to ensure that this unique school can continue to serve children for many more decades.

"When we moved to the Philadelphia area from Australia, the Thorne school was the first community that we really felt welcomed into. We were anxious to find a nurturing and engaging preschool for our son as we all settled into a new country, and Thorne became a haven of warmth and calm for our family." — Parents of Toddler
