"I am a new executive director but a seasoned professional.  The program makes you think and practice differently.  There is also a special camaraderie among the NELI Fellows,” Shawn Lacy, Esq. Executive Director, Family Support Services, NELI 2007

“NELI provided me with the space, theory and support to view organizational challenges and opportunities through fresh eyes. The work in my peer learning community took this one step further, providing me with a regular check-in point to practice learnings, weather setbacks and celebrate victories,” Melissa Weiler Gerber, Executive Director, Women’s Way, NELI 2005

SPECIALIZED LEADERSHIP TRAINING for NONPROFIT EXECUTIVES

The Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute's (NELI) Executive Leadership Certificate program focuses both on the individual leader as well as the organization s/he runs. Through individual and organizational assessments, NELI Fellows spend ten months assessing their own strengths and challenges as well as analyzing their organizations in light of best practices from the nonprofit, public and private sectors. They problem solve and share stories with peers who understand the special challenges of the sector. They work with executive coaches to develop and achieve a plan for change and growth.

What are your professional goals?  What are your goals for your organization? Where is your career headed?  How can NELI's Executive Leadership Certificate program help you take your skills and your organization to the next level? Learn more about the intensive executive educational experience by exploring this web site.  If you want to know more or are considering applying for the 2009 Executive Leadership Certificate Class, email your name and contact information to neli@brynmawr.edu.  Or you may call 610-520-2650 and arrange a time to talk to NELI Director Catherine Ormerod.

* Defining their Professional Development plan with the assistance of their executive coach to map out goals and strategies to achieve them.

* Putting into place the first pieces of their Action Project-- a year-long, real time project brought from their workplace that stretches skills and challenges comfort levels.

* Reading and thinking about organizational dynamics and systems.

Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute--
Intensive Executive Education for Leaders

Change is constant and complex in both the nonprofit and public sectors. Leaders of these organizations must be efficient, effective and entrepreneurial while being accountable to the populations they serve, the public, funders and individuals that donate time and money.

The Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI) offers an interactive learning environment designed to deeply engage participants in discussions of their unique leadership challenges.  The Executive Leadership Certificate program offers opportunities to learn new theories and techniques to meet those challenges.  The NELI curriculum unfolds over time allowing Fellows to integrate and test out new techniques and discuss the results with their peers.  NELI Fellows transform themselves and their organizations.

NELI's curriculum helps executives take their organizations to new heights of growth, sustainability, accountability, and effectiveness. The integrated curriculum offers:

  • individual leadership assessment and coaching
  • theoretical and experiential models
  • peer networks

“The ten days of curriculum have had a profound impact on me because it was all reinforced by the astounding peer support I got from my Learning Community. My experience at NELI helped me become a better leader by providing me with the tools to make tough decisions and implement new policies that are now carrying my organization forward,”

Casey Cook, Executive Director, Bread & Roses Community Fund; NELI ‘05
