SPANISH DEPARTMENT WEEKLY CULTURAL SERIES BEGINS MONDAY

The Spanish Department's weekly cultural series will resume for the spring semester on Monday, Jan. 26, with a lecture by Assistant Professor H. Rosi Song on the influential 1928 film Un Chien Andalou by surrealist director Luis Buñuel. The series, which consists of lectures, films and workshops, deals with a wide range of topics in the cultural heritage of the Spanish-speaking world. All events in the series are open to the public; they take place on Monday nights at 7 p.m. in Thomas 110 (except where noted on the schedule posted at www.brynmawr.edu/spanish/activities.html).

Series coordinator and Lecturer in Spanish Peter Koelle hopes that many of the events will appeal to an audience beyond students of Spanish language and literature. He points to a Feb. 2 lecture on the Argentinian “economic meltdown,” a talk by immigration attorney Christine Flowers '83 titled “Preserving the American Dream in the Age of Terror,” scheduled for Feb. 22, and a presentation by Tamara Johnston, registrar of the College Collections, on ancient Peruvian objects in the collections.

“Anyone who's going to Barcelona shouldn't miss Gary McDonogh's presentation on April 19,” Koelle says. “And people will never regret participating in the March 1 Latino dance workshop given by Ines Arribas. It is conducted in Spanish, but all the Spanish you really need to know is uno, dos, cha-cha-cha.”
