BROWN-BAGS CONSIDER
INFORMATION, MEANING AND NOISE
The organizers of a well-attended brown-bag lunch series
sponsored by the Center for Science in Society have
altered the overarching theme of the discussions
from "What Counts" to "Information,
Meaning and Noise: What's the Difference?"
This semester's offerings will begin with a presentation
by Associate Professor of English Katherine Rowe, titled
"What Is Information? Comparing Our Conceptual
Maps and Investments," at noon on Thursday, Jan.
29, in the Multicultural Center.
The series will continue to meet in the Multicultural
Center on Thursdays at noon throughout the semester.
The slate of speakers offers a broad diversity of viewpoints,
with representatives of academic disciplines in the
natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, as
well as several members of the College's administrative
staff. A full calendar, as well as archived minutes
of last semester's discussions and an online discussion
board, is available at
