BOOSTERS SPONSOR FIRST BRYN MAWR OLYMPICS
Hoping to create a new Bryn Mawr tradition, Bryn Mawr Boosters founders Amanda Rogers '04 and Caitlin Ryus '05 looked for inspiration to a source with a proven track record on this campus: classical Greece. The first annual Bryn Mawr Olympics will welcome students, faculty and staff to a competition offering prizes of cash, pizza and chicken wings. The games are scheduled to begin at noon on Sunday, March 21. Three categories of players — representing athletic teams, student organizations and clubs, and academic or administrative departments — will compete in five events designed to test accuracy, endurance, speed, power and consistency. Unlike the ancient Greek version, the Bryn Mawr games will not open with the sacrifice of oxen.
"A friendly, fun environment where athletes and nonathletes (and everyone in between) may come together in the spirit of competition" is the goal of the games, says Rogers, a field hockey player who founded the boosters club last semester to foster campuswide support for athletic programs.
The Bryn Mawr Olympics will favor adaptability: only two players from each team, organization or department may register, and the events will test basic skills used in field hockey, soccer, rugby, track and field, basketball, volleyball and badminton.
Participants must register by Wednesday, March 17, at 10 p.m. Click here to download a registration form. To read more about the Bryn Mawr Olympics, see www.geocities.com/brynmawrolympics.
