PRESIDENT VICKERS LAYS OUT DIRECTION OF COLLEGE

President Nancy J. Vickers has released "Looking Ahead: Directions for Bryn Mawr," a brief to be discussed with faculty, students and staff at the first of a series of community updates scheduled for the coming academic year. Meetings with faculty and staff are scheduled for Sept. 27 and 28, respectively. The president also announced yesterday that she had carried out her stated intention to meet with SGA President Amanda Glendenning '05 to arrange a schedule of meetings with students, as reported in the Sept. 2 issue of Bryn Mawr Now. The two have agreed upon a series of Wednesday-night meetings; for a complete schedule, see www.brynmawr.edu/communityupdate.

The brief provides an overview of "the challenges and opportunities that lie before us, and what we are doing to address them." In it, Vickers addresses the College's mission, which she describes as particularly ambitious for an institution of its size; its long-term goals as set out by The Plan for a New Century; the College's current progress toward those goals; and what is required to sustain that progress.

"I encourage all members of the campus community to engage in this discussion," Vickers said, "and to visit the Community Updates Web page, where we post documents that are important to understanding the current state of the College. It is vital to our sense of identity as a community that we consider the full range of information and opinion in the decisions we make about the future."
