ONLINE CALENDAR INTEGRATED WITH LIST-SERVE

Web Applications Developer Mike Zarro has completed the first of several planned improvements to the College's online calendar: a script that offers one-stop shopping for event organizers who want to publicize their events through the calendar and the "Activities" list-serve, to which students are the primary subscribers.

The new tool, which Zarro created in consultation with Student Activities Coordinator Mary Beth Horvath and Web and Instructional Resources Director Janet Scannell, automatically generates a daily digest of the next two days' events that is sent to all Activities list subscribers. On Fridays, the digest becomes "This Weekend at Bryn Mawr," covering events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"We're hoping that integrating the calendar and the list-serve this way will encourage people to use both tools more effectively," Zarro said. "Some students rely more heavily on the Activities list to find out what’s going on at Bryn Mawr, but others use the calendar pretty much exclusively. Now you can make sure you're reaching both the calendar-watchers and the e-mail readers with just one Web form."

To submit an event to the calendar and list-serve, go to www.brynmawr.edu/calendar/ and click on the "Submit an Event" link in the left-hand column.
