ON CAMPUS: GET A TASTE OF HOME AT PARENTS' WEEKEND; BMC, HAVERFORD DIRECTORIES AVAILABLE; WORKPLACE GIVING CAMPAIGN SEEKS DONATIONS
A Taste of Home. Among the highlights of this year's Parents' Weekend will be the awarding of prizes in Dining Services' third annual Taste of Home competition. The Taste of Home program collects recipes from parents of Bryn Mawr students; winners receive a $100 American Express gift certificate, a cookbook of Main Line recipes, and the honor of inclusion in Dining Services' board-plan menu. A committee of judges including students, faculty and staff sampled and rendered judgment on more than 70 entries in late October.
An awards ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. in the Dorothy Vernon Room of Haffner will honor Donna Heald, whose red beans and rice won the"regular entrées" category; Rosemary Stein, who took the"vegetarian entrées" prize with her eggplant stew; Wendy Newman, whose Chinese slaw took top honors in the "side dishes" competition; and Georgette Albert-Luppino, who won the "desserts" competition with her Hawaiian wedding cake. Samples of the winning entries will be available for tasting at the ceremony.
BMC, HC Campus Directories Available. Haverford College faculty, staff and student directories have been shipped to the Bryn Mawr campus. A copy of each directory will be forwarded to each Hall Adviser and to each departmental office. Bryn Mawr directories are still available through the Public Affairs Office (call Diana Douglass at x6521 or e-mail info@brynmawr.edu ). Those who have already requested additional copies of the Bryn Mawr directory should receive them within the week.
Workplace Giving Campaign Update. Organizers of the Combined Workplace Giving Campaign report slow progress toward the goal of $20,000. As of Thursday, Nov. 4, a total of $1,915 has been pledged to the Campaign, an increase of $115 since last week. Campaign committee members hope to see an increase in donations next week as focus shifts from the presidential election.
The Giving Turkey gained the last stripe on his second feather in the week that has passed: there are $18,000 worth of feathers still in black and white! Campaign organizers hope to display a fully feathered turkey in time for Thanksgiving — the last chance to give to the campaign is Wednesday, Nov. 24, Thanksgiving eve. However, the last chance to view the Giving Turkey and our progress before Thanksgiving is in the Nov. 18 issue of Bryn Mawr Now.
