ON CAMPUS: SEVEN SISTERS BASKETBALL TOURNEY, LOGO CONTEST, LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST, STUDENT A CAPPELLA

What Does Information Look Like? The winning answer will be worth $200 in the Information Services Logo Contest. The IS department, which comprises Libraries, Computing Services, Digital Media and Visual Resources, Multimedia, Networking, Telephone Services, and the Language Learning Center, seeks a graphic identity that

  • Looks good in either black and white or color and
  • Is legible at sizes ranging from desktop icon to full-size poster.

The contest is open to everyone on the Bryn Mawr campus; submissions are due by Feb. 15. All artwork must be original, and all submissions will become the property of IS. Photoshop format is preferred, but a printed version is acceptable. Submit entries via e-mail to is-logo@brynmawr.edu or via campus mail to IS Logo Contest, Office of the CIO, Canaday Library. For more information about Information Services (and a look at one of the places a logo might appear), see the department's Web page.

The Bard Hits Close to Home. A group of friends swears an oath to scholarship, vowing to fast, sleep as little as possible and remain chaste. But belles lettres soon give way to love letters as romance displaces study. No, it's not finals week; it's Love's Labour's Lost, to be performed by the Shakespeare Performance Troupe on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2, 3 and 4, in Goodhart Music Room. The student-run company invites all and sundry to see the free performance.

A Cappella, Sacred and Profane. Two of Bryn Mawr's student a cappella groups will offer concerts with off-campus partners this week. The Extreme Keys, which bills itself as the oldest all-female a cappella group in the Bi-College community, will offer "Kiss My Keyster," a winter celebration, at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in the Lusty Cup. The Keys will be accompanied by special guests Sixteen Feet, an all-male ensemble from Swarthmore. 2Fish, a Christian group, will perform "a cappella with holiday spirit" on Saturday, Dec. 4, in Erdman Living Room. 2Fish will be joined by the College of New Jersey's Voice of Hope. Both shows are free.

Rocks for Your Stockings? Earrings, necklaces and more will be offered at the Geology Department's annual mineral jewelry sale on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of Canaday Library. The sale will benefit the Professor Edward H. Watson Fund for Bryn Mawr College Geology Students, which funds scholarships for field study, researches expenses, and travel to meetings. Samples are on exhibit in the second-floor hall of Park Science Building in Case 21.

Seven Sisters Tip Off Friday. Bryn Mawr will host the 25th annual Seven Sisters Basketball Championship at Bern Schwartz Gymnasium, Friday, Dec. 3, to Sunday, Dec. 5. Five of the original sister schools —Bryn Mawr, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Vassar and Wellesley — compete in the tournament along with "cousins" Haverford and Swarthmore and, since 1995, St. Joe's. The action begins Friday at 2 p.m. when Holyoke takes on Haverford; Bryn Mawr's first match is with Wellesley on Friday at 4 p.m. The final round will be played Sunday at 5 p.m. For a full tournament schedule, see www.brynmawr.edu/athletics/ intercollegiate/basketball/ssbball.htm
