LUSTY CUP TO CONTINUE EXPANDED OPERATIONS AND OFFERINGS

When renovations began in the Campus Center in December, an abridged version of the offerings of the Uncommon Grounds Café moved to Canaday Library's Lusty Cup for the duration of construction activity. Librarians and scholars were so enthusiastic about the convenience of snacks in the stacks that Dining Services will experiment with keeping the higher level of staffing and food offerings in the library café even after Uncommon Grounds opens in its spiffy redesigned space in February.

The Lusty Cup will continue to offer "grab-and-go" food — pre-wrapped sandwiches, pastries, microwaveable frozen dishes and specialty tea and coffee drinks — on weekdays from morning until mid-afternoon, says Dining Services Director Bernie Chung-Templeton. The café will reopen from 8 p.m. to midnight under student supervision, offering the above menu minus the sandwiches.

Meanwhile, Chung-Templeton is excited about progress on the Uncommon Grounds site and expects the new space to be much friendlier to both customers and workers.

"The entire dining area will look completely different," she says. "There will be a new floor, new lighting — all the textures and colors will change.

"Seating will be expanded into the current Room 105, which will be opened up and redesigned as an informal lounge and game area, and into the Main Lounge, which will also get a facelift," Chung-Templeton explains. She promises a revamped menu and promotional specials to draw diners to the improved space.

She's especially eager to see how the restructuring of the café's space affects business operations. "The counter has been moved to encourage better pedestrian flow," she says. "Service should be drastically improved by the new set-up."
