Roko Kawai |
Some of Philadelphia's hottest performers will bring a diverse sampling of the downtown dance scene to Goodhart Theater when the College presents its Dance Faculty Concert on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The show is free and open to the public; a reception will follow.
This annual showcase features some of the region's most interesting choreographers in a range of styles including modern dance, classical Indian, Japanese and African dance. On the program:
- "Union/Dissolution," an intense duet by dancer/anthropologist Pallabi Chakravorty with live tabla and trumpet
- "Bloodline," Myra Bazell's high-energy work for six of Philadelphia's finest dancers
- Linda Caruso Haviland's powerful solo "Buffalo, 1942"
-
Jeannine Osayande, our popular African dance teaching artist, will depart from traditional work with a solo "Their Eyes Were Watching God"
-
Roko Kawai in her continuing personal dialogue with classical Japanese dance
- Grace Mi-He Lee in her lighthearted duet "The Good, the Bad and the Fluffy":
- Renee Banson with a group of young dancers from the Pennsylvania School for the Performing Arts
- Noemi Segarra, in an improvisational duet with multi-talented Eddie Venegas on violin and trombone.
